The Reality Of Politics
56I Have A Dream PART I
In a perfect world, things work perfectly, as they were intended to work. If a device is intended to produce a gallon of liquid every two seconds, then it will produce a gallon of liquid every two seconds precisely. BUT... We live in an imperfect world that functions imperfectly. The same device may produce 1.8 gallons every 3 seconds or it may produce 2.5 gallons every 1.5 seconds. The point is that while anything and everything is made with a specific intent in mind, it never produces exactly what we intended it to produce unless we are continually monitoring and adjusting it's progress as we go.
I have a dream that we will one day once again have a government that functions as the founding fathers had originally intended it to. I say, "once again," because as long as there was an original founder in office, whether it be the Presidential office or a cabinet office, they had an understanding of how that function of office was intended to properly operate.
The main function of our government, as the founding fathers once intended it, was to give the power of government directly to those who were to be governed. Therefore no law, rule, infringement, constraint, restriction, entitlement, favor, appointment or process of authority could be enabled against a citizen without the consent of the citizen.
In this day and age, politics is no longer what it was once meant to be, a means of governing among those who have opposing ideals, morals and beliefs. Whereas a politician once campaigned and then governed and then campaigned to get re-elected, now all they do is campaign. Once elected, they continue to campaign for re-election, simply following the mandates that their financial supporters dictate to them in the manner of governance. A government of the people, by the people and for the people, has been hi-jacked by the lobbyists, the political parties, the unions and the special interest groups.
It matters not what your political slant is towards. What matters is that the people who are elected to office, whether that office be local sheriff, mayor or state senator do the job they were elected to do once in office. And the job they were elected to do is represent "we" the people to the governmental machine.
The governmental machine is not by any means an ineffectual or broken piece of equipment. It was built the way it was designed to function: as an entity of government that follows the direction given to it by the consent of those it governs. The problem is that those who are governed by it have become too involved with other aspects of their lives to take into consideration just how the machine will function without their active participation.
Simply put: "We, the people" have become too busy to be bothered with our government.
